I suffered a stroke and became partially paralyzed at 60. I was diabetic, had high blood pressure and didn’t take good care of myself. But I didn’t think it would get to the point of a stroke. I required full-time care at home. It was demoralizing and humiliating to not even be able to use the toilet myself.
I was very concerned I would never get my independence back. I began doing stroke therapy with Maurice. We began with small movements in bed, which was all I could do. Then he helped me swing my legs off the bed and stand up with the help of a walker. That felt like climbing a mountain! Then I began to take small steps. That was like running a marathon! In 4 months, I was walking with the walker and in less than a year I was taking hour long walks every day. Two years later I am driving and have almost full mobility. I never would have been able to do this without Maurice. His knowledge is boundless, and he has so many ideas of exercises and activities to regain movement and stability. I continue to train with him to keep my body strong and me on track. I cannot thank him enough for giving me my life back.

My mother suffered a stroke and returned from hospital in a wheelchair and was paralyzed on her right side. She was in her mid-70s and wasn’t in the best shape before the stroke so we didn’t have much hope that she would regain any mobility. We were prepared to have her live out her days between the bed and the wheelchair.
However, our cousin, a doctor, suggested we meet with Maurice to see if he could help mom get some movement back. She liked him immediately from his first visit to do an assessment. She found he was sweet and always made her laugh.
After 6 months she could get in and out of bed on her own and could walk on her own in the house. She also feels comfortable leaving the house with the walker and easily gets in and out of the car. She’s happy to go to church and family gatherings and has the spark of life that we didn’t know if we would ever get back. We are so grateful!

In August 2020, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory bowel disease which caused internal bleeding, severe weight loss and many other symptoms. I was a former national athlete who frequently trained at “The Yard” with Maurice. In July 2020, just before I started experiencing symptoms of the disease, I weighed 192 pounds and trained daily.
Fast forward to November 2020, I weighed just under 130 pounds, loosing roughly over 60 pounds. While I laid in the hospital for many nights as I recovered slowly from my disease, I thought about how I was going to take to regain my fitness, strength and size. I knew the best place to do that was with Maurice.
The first day I returned to training I had to resort to the lightest weight in the gym. Uncle Maurice, my trainer for years, barely even recognized me due to the significant size difference. After numerous mornings of getting up from my bed, feeling pain and soreness from the previous workouts, I now currently weigh 175 pounds and can push all the weight I did before I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. This was all thanks to the best trainer and rehabilitation specialist out there, Maurice Nunes. Gaining back my weight was not by chance, it was from committing to train every day and following Uncle Maurice’s daily workout plans. I owe great thanks to him for getting me back to where I was.

Over the last few months I have been under the care of Maurice who is helping and guiding me through my recovery following the rupture of my right achilles tendon. I am very pleased with all that he has taught, trained and advised me. It is evident that Maurice has a vast amount of knowledge and experience. I felt comfortable and confident with his expertise from the first session. Additionally, I value the fact that the sessions are one-to-one and that he is flexible with regards to the time and venue for the physiotherapy – extremely convenient. I would definitely recommend Maurice to anyone.
